Marti Nikko Bradley

A truly gifted teacher, Marti is known for motivating her clients through her own passion.  Fully certified in the Pilates Method through the PhysicalMind Institute, and having worked in the fitness industry for the past 12 years, she trains from a deep understanding of movement dynamics and the body.  Keeping clients engaged using unique modifications and variations to the classic repertoire, her sessions encourage focus and concentration.  With her kind-hearted demeanor, Marti exudes a positive energy that inspires, energizes and accelerates her clients.

Marti developed her deep appreciation for the mind-body arts through dance at an early age.  This passion continually supports her desires to learn new methods and her ability to help one find strength and ease through practice.  A student of yoga since 2000, Marti’s study of hatha yoga led her to become a Yoga Alliance certified teacher.  She takes master workshops each year and believes in the deep healing power of yoga for all.  It is her desire to create space that allows for greater depth, awareness and overall wellbeing in one’s practice.  Marti bows in gratitude to her many teachers…

Joseph Pilates

German born Joseph Pilates was living in England at the outbreak of WWI.  In 1914 under forced internment, he began to develop the floor exercises that evolved into what we now know as fundamental Pilates exercises.  He taught camp members core concepts and exercises from yoga, Zen, ancient Greek and Roman physical regimens.  The exercises known today as “matwork” became the foundation of his method.

He incorporated the 6 fundamental principles in all of his exercises which include posture, body mechanics, correct breathing, spinal flexibility, physical education, and his law of natural exercises.  Using these principals he devised equipment to rehabilitate his patients with springs and pulleys for the injured and bedridden.

Today, Pilates is a method not only used as a process of rehabilitation but as a focused method to strengthen, stretch, improve posture and balance the body.  With the quality of movement being the focus of the method, Pilates can be practiced at any fitness level.
